There is something satisfying about having a simple cleaning routine. As a stay-at-home mom with a busy toddler, I love finding practical ways to keep our home fresh without relying on a cabinet full of products.
Recently, I shared my favorite DIY Room Spray for Pet-Friendly Homes, which is perfect for freshening up linens, curtains, and living spaces. While that spray helps our home smell cozy and inviting, I wanted something equally simple for everyday cleaning tasks.
This homemade all-purpose cleaning spray has become my go-to for wiping down counters, tables, cabinet fronts, bathroom sinks, and other everyday messes.
Why I Like This DIY Cleaner
- Made with just a few ingredients
- Quick to mix together
- Budget-friendly
- Simple enough to keep mixed and ready for daily cleaning tasks
- Leaves surfaces feeling clean without harsh odors
Most importantly, it’s simple. As much as I enjoy homemaking, I don’t want cleaning products to be complicated.
What You’ll Need

- 2 cups purified water
- 1 tablespoon Castile soap
- 10–15 drops lemon essential oil
- Spray bottle
Directions
- Fill your spray bottle with purified water.
- Add the Castile soap.
- Add the lemon essential oil.
- Gently shake to combine.
- Shake lightly before each use.
That’s it!
Where I Use It
This cleaner works well for many of the everyday surfaces in our home:
- Kitchen counters
- Dining table
- High chair tray
- Cabinet doors
- Bathroom sinks
- Appliance exteriors
- Light dusting and wipe-downs
For wood furniture, I prefer spraying the cleaner onto a cloth rather than directly onto the surface.

A Simple Homemaking Routine
One thing I’ve learned is that keeping a home tidy often comes down to small daily habits rather than deep-cleaning marathons.
Most mornings, I spend a few minutes wiping down the kitchen after breakfast, cleaning the table, and resetting the counters before moving on with the day. Having a simple cleaner already mixed and ready to use makes that process much easier.
It’s similar to why I created my DIY Room Spray. I enjoy having simple, practical products that help our home feel fresh, cozy, and welcoming without adding extra work.

A Quick Note
Always test homemade cleaners on a small, inconspicuous area before use. Avoid using on natural stone surfaces such as marble or granite. Use caution around children and pets, and follow manufacturer recommendations for your surfaces.
Final Thoughts
This all-purpose spray isn’t meant to replace every cleaner in your home. Instead, it’s a simple solution for the daily messes that come with family life.
Between sticky toddler fingerprints, crumbs on the table, and everyday kitchen messes, this spray helps me keep our home feeling clean with very little effort.
For our family, having a few simple products on hand makes everyday homemaking feel a little easier. Sometimes the simplest solutions really are the ones we reach for most.
