There are some memories that don’t need a special occasion to become unforgettable.

This beach day at Ventura was one of them.

There wasn’t a big event planned or a long vacation itinerary. It was simply a day spent together, watching the waves roll in, feeling the ocean breeze, and seeing the beach through my daughter’s eyes. Those ordinary moments are often the ones I treasure most, which is exactly why I wanted to preserve them in my scrapbook.

When I created this layout, I wanted it to reflect the feeling of the day—peaceful, relaxed, and timeless.

The Finished Layout

A Soft Coastal Color Palette

When people think of beach scrapbook layouts, bright blues and tropical embellishments often come to mind.

For this page, I wanted something a little different.

Instead, I chose soft, neutral colors inspired by the shoreline itself. Warm sand, weathered linen, muted blue stripes, and natural burlap create a subtle coastal feel without taking attention away from the photographs.

The goal was to let the memories become the focal point while the textures quietly supported the story.

Simple Details That Tell the Story

One of my favorite parts of this page is that it doesn’t rely on a large title.

Instead, a few small details tell the story.

The tiny torn labels simply read:

Ventura

Beach

Beneath the photos, I added a handwritten note:

“Watching the waves together.”

Sometimes that’s all a page needs.

Years from now, those few words will instantly bring me back to this quiet afternoon by the ocean.

Adding Texture

Texture is one of my favorite ways to add warmth to a scrapbook layout.

For this page I used:

  • White linen cardstock
  • Torn patterned paper
  • Burlap
  • Rounded corner photographs
  • Tiny typed labels
  • Handwritten journaling

These simple elements give the layout dimension while keeping the overall design clean and timeless.

Recreate This Look with My Scrapbook Sketch Pack

One of my favorite ways to start a scrapbook page is with a sketch.

Sketches provide a simple foundation while still leaving plenty of room to make each layout your own. Changing the photos, papers, colors, and embellishments allows the same basic design to tell completely different stories.

If you’re looking for more scrapbook inspiration, my 20 Scrapbook Layout Sketch Pack includes versatile sketches designed to help you document everything from everyday moments to birthdays, vacations, and family memories.

Whether you’re new to scrapbooking or simply looking for fresh ideas, sketches are a wonderful way to spark creativity while still making each page uniquely yours.

Why I Love Scrapbooking Everyday Life

Some of my favorite scrapbook pages aren’t about holidays or milestones.

They’re about ordinary Tuesday afternoons.

A walk through the park.

Working in the garden.

Baking cookies together.

A quiet day at the beach.

Those little moments often become some of our sweetest memories because they capture what everyday life truly looked like.

When I flip through our albums years from now, I hope these pages remind me not only of what we did, but also of how these seasons of life felt.
